About Lara

Lara Alexander is your local Independent Member for Bass.

Lara is a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) with a BA Economic Studies (Hons). She was born in Romania and as a child she also lived for several years in Morocco.  Lara is fluent in English, French, Italian, and Romanian.

Lara has worked in the not-for-profit sector for over twenty years, working with health-related charities and benevolent institutions, such as St John Ambulance, Save the Children, Bethesda Hospital, Cancer Council, Presbyterian Care Tasmania (Aged Care) and the St Vincent de Paul Society.

Lara has a passion for helping communities and has served on the Board of the Immune Deficiencies Foundation Australia and the Consumers Health Forum of Australia, for a number of years. She is also a member of Rotary Club of South Launceston.

She has strong business skills being involved over the years in major change management projects, business transfers and acquisitions as well as, medium and large capital developments in the not-for-profit sector. Being a CPA, Lara has extensive experience in business improvement, risk mitigation & governance, advocacy, program development, stakeholder engagement, as well as extensive media communication and presentation skills.

In 2010, Lara and her husband Jason, moved from WA and made Launcetson their home.

In her spare time, Lara has a keen interest in history and together with Jason, enjoys daily walks with their rescue dog Fifi as well as looking after their aging cat, Missy, who is now in her 20h year.
